After last weeks miserable performance against Perpignan, Montpellier had to redeem themselves in front of their home crowd, but the visitors Stade Français were having a good spell  in the TOP 14 and were looking for points. MBM was back in the team after his marriage last weekend in Argentina and there were plenty of players who needed to up their performance from last week but that they already knew.
The massive festive crowd of 13,068 did not have long to wait, quick thinking from FTD, caught the ball on the full with one foot in touch ran along the touch, took the throw himself and after a couple of quick passes the ball came out to Thomas Combezou who waltzed over the line unopposed, along with a penalty and the conversion MBM put Montpellier ahead 10-0. Porical managed a couple of penalties for Stade to bring them back into the game reducing the score to 10-6, another  penalty by MBM, then the first moment  of magic from FTD, there were many this evening. The chef d’orchestre went one way, changed direction, gave the ball to Santi Fernandez who served the Flying Fijian Nagusa, unstoppable from 25mts. MBM converted, 2 minutes later FTD was again in on the act, this time a massive dummy pass, a couple of magic sidesteps and the Parisians were either going the wrong way or just standing mesmerized by a fly half on incredible form, Francois touched down behind the line, nobody had got close to him and of course MBM converted. Porical got anther 3 pts for Stade and the teams went to the pause Montpellier 27 Stade Francais 9.
The second half started after an entertaining double header of Montpellier minims against their counterparts from Lunel, the home side winning both mini games, this looked as though it could be Montpellier’s night. Stade came out a little more aggressive and after a Porical penalty Missoup got himself on the score board with a well worked try which pleased the crowd no end !!!! Porical converted and that was that as far as Stade were concerned 27-16. The nearly full house started to increase the volume and the players responded, tries quickly followed from Tomas, MBM, and the young Kelian Galletier got himself on the score board in his very first TOP 14 game of the season, all of which the irreproachable MBM  converted tonight Monsieur 100%, marriage is obviously a good choice for Martin. While all this was going on Stade did score 2 yellows one after the other, for some dubious play on firstly Thibault Privat by Missoup then Arrias followed closing behind, the fact that Montpellier played against 14 for 15 minutes did help but even with 15 on the park Stade were struggling and could not keep the home sides onslaught at bay. By the end of the game the supporters were going wild, unstoppable Mexican waves and Ici Ici Montpellier was being heard all over region even the petit fours were getting involved. With over 50 pts on the board the ref blew for time: final score: Montpellier 54 Stade Francais 16
A performance of festive heights, players who had under performed showed why they are class tonight, Francois Trinh-Duc purely magnificent and with the 6 Nations just around the corner he did himself absolutely no harm, just hope Philip St Andre was watching. MBM with his 29pts was without exception sublime and there are many to be mentioned but this was a team effort.  All three coaches Galthie, Glas, and Ledesma (all involved with Stade not that long ago) did have rather cheeky but respectful smiles on their faces at the end of the game even Fabien Galthie in his post match interview commented on feeling something in the water this week, always easy when the 54pts are already on the board but he and his charges must take maximum credit a job very well done.
Next week onto Clermont, ko. 15.00 Saturday 5th Jan. Never easy but with confidence you never really know what sport can turn up!!!.

Pitch side interview with Martin Bustos Moyano.
Steve Whittell: Firstly congratulations on your marriage last weekend, and secondly that was one hell of a game.
Martin Bustos Moyano: Thank you very much, yes after our poor performance last week against Perpignan we have been training hard this week and wanted to prove to everybody that this was not the real Montpellier, tonight I think we showed what we can do when we put our minds to it.
Steve Whittell: 29 points, a try and the rest from the boot, Mon 100%
Martin Bustos Moyano: It is always good when they all pass but the boys did help by scoring near to the posts which always makes it a bit easier, although the 2 from the touch line I hit really well, one of those nights when everything goes according to plan.
Steve Whittell: The inter play tonight between forwards and backs was exceptional.
Martin Bustos Moyano: We had Francois on his very best tonight he distributed the ball with loads of skill and created tries plus scoring himself, but the forwards were great they were everywhere and won countless balls in the rucks and mauls plus the scrum gave us a great platform to play off, the whole team enjoyed tonight immensely that is why rugby is such a great game.
Steve Whittell: Cheers Martin go join the boys to celebrate and have a very Happy New Year.
