Multiple Heart Réactions

Le 04 avril 2011

Once upon a time rugby was just a sport until Montpellier decided to contest for the highest of places in the TOP 14, now it is known as the direct route to the local heart clinics for all, including coaches staff and supporters, it seems that only the players are unaware of their follies. The last few matches have had the hearts of most, firmly stuck in the back of their throats, well until the final whistle, and there are still 3 games to play!!!
Yesterday was no different, Montpellier were playing bottom of the table Bourgoin away from home, the last time the Lantern Rouge won a game was back in December and that was against, yes you guessed Montpellier!!! The banana skins were carefully laid out and it was up to Montpellier not to trip up, but they tried their very best, taking control of the game, then immediately giving it back to Bourgoin, this went on throughout the game until the final minutes, when the visitors, our victorious Cistes finally put paid to the bottom clubs revival.
The score Bourgoin 27 Montpellier 42
A game that had in all 8 tries, 5 from Montpellier, all scored by the backs who were on grand form, Martin Bustos- Moyano contributed a magnificent 27 points, with 2 tries and was only one point off the record points total scored in one game this season, the other 3 tries were added by Francois Trinh-Duc after a glorious 70mts dash, Julien Tomas, and after a neat interception Santiago Fernandez run under the sticks for the last score of the game.
The forwards were a little less evident on the day and made numerous mistakes but that has to be understood as this season has been particularly long and with all the injuries which are hitting the squad things are not going to get much better in the near future.
The most important result of this weekend is the 4 points taken from Bourgoin and Montpellier’s 4th away success of the season, even if Bourgoin are propping up the rest of the TOP 14 they still can produce and were never going to lie down and die.
At this very moment Montpellier are 3rd with 65pts, 8pts behind leaders Toulouse and 1pt in front of 4th place Castres, but there are still a possible 9 teams able to qualify with Bayonne in 9th on 58pts the game and qualification is a long way from over and all sorts of combinations are still a possibility, but one thing is sure, win 2 of our last 3 games are we will qualify, win all 3 and we could bag ourselves a semi final place depending other results, a very tall order but still very possible!!! The dream continues and Montpellier could be on the way to making club history.
The General (Galthie) may well see his scooter disappearing on the horizon in the hands of a Canal + match commentator, but he will probably still have a smile on his face!!!
