After the storm of Tuesday morning, but more so the storm of Saturday evening and the pure courage of Montpellier after their 13-8 victory over Clermont, the squad were back in business on the training field. Hopefully there was no disrespect towards Agen but the press was in minimum audience compared with last week’s preparation before the match against Clermont.
However in addition to the normal phases of training, was the appearance of Thierry Cussan, a professional sports instructor in Judo and Greco Roman wrestling, who took the session for about 30 mins showing the players’ techniques and moves which would enable them to use to the utmost their upper body strength. Extremely beneficial for the players, they got on with the job in hand with class and enthusiasm but also having fun performing, especially the weightier as they definitely came into their own and not many wanted to take on Vincent Pelo for obvious reasons. Thanks to Thierry who will continue to instruct in his speciality at least once a week until further notice. The big difference between Judo and Greco Roman wrestling is the technicalities in Judo are more intricate, and the wrestling is a sport of balance and 95% pure upper body strength but both sports are closely related to rugby and the defence, which will do no harm to all our players, although they showed that the defence on Saturday was in excellent condition against Clermont.
The training session was of full contact with of course protection, and it was good to see the likes of Paul Bosch, Yoan Audrin  Mamuka Gorgodze running around the park at full tilt after their injuries. After the victory over Clermont this weekend, the boys look hungry for more and the memories of silly defeats at the beginning last season to Brive and Bordeaux are surely in evidence and are certainly not to be repeated.
Saturday 1st September KO. 18.30 Montpellier vs Agen.
